Crans-Montana mayor Nicolas Feraud apologised during a news conference, announcing an immediate ban on sparkler candles inside venues after they were blamed for triggering the blaze.⁣

“We are profoundly sorry,” Feraud said. “We had no indication that the required checks had not been carried out.”⁣
⁣
The fire at the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana on New Year’s Day also left 116 people injured, with more than two-thirds still hospitalized. Most of the victims were teenagers.⁣
