Well the 2023 NHL Draft has come to an end in Nashville! The Flames came into this draft with 6/7 picks and had some needs to fill in their prospect cupboard. With that in mind and rookie GM Craig Conroy waiting to leave his impact on the team, the Flames came through with some solid picks.

They needed to fill in the need of some prospects on the left D side and they got Etienne Morin at pick 48 to do just that. Morin is an offensive minded d-man that can jump in on the rush and do almost everything on the offensive side of things. He was the 19th ranked North American skater by the NHL Central Scouting report. Super impressed with this pick from Craig Conroy and the staff.

The forwards selected by the team illustrate a picture in which the team wants two-way, shifty players along with some size… they get their guys in Sam Honzek, Aydar Suniev and Jaden Lupinski.

Sam Honzek is an interesting prospect. At 6-foot-4, 186 pounds his size pops immediately, and he looks like a pro. He was a reliable player for the Giants all season long and has been their main offensive weapon. Honzek has played a top role in all situations, playing on the first units of the power play (PP) and penalty-kill (PK). He can pretty much do everything and can develop into a great two-way forward for the Flames at one point if all things go right.

The Flames fill some of their needs and come out with some pretty good young prospects that fans can look forward to over the coming years. Looking forward to what some of these guys can do in the prospect pipeline and show us what the scouting and management staff saw in them. Although the team could have picked some of the BAPs (Best Available Players) with the picks they had, they still came out with some picks that can eventually get the job done in some areas of this organization.

All-in-all a pretty solid draft from the team. I give the picks and work done from the team a grade of B.

Thoughts? What did you think of the work the Flames did at the draft? 🤔🔥 #Flames #CofRed #NHLDraft #2023NHLDraft
