#ForImmediateRelease: Stow-Munroe Falls City Schools is pleased to announce that John Moyer and Jason Whitacre were officially sworn in as new members of the Board of Education, joining Tina Merlitti, who continues her service on the Board. The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026 during the Board’s organizational meeting at Stow City Hall.

John Moyer is a retired educator with 34 years of experience at Stow-Munroe Falls High School, where he taught government, economics, and a student leadership course. Since retiring, Moyer has partnered with Resilient Leadership, LLC, training and coaching area school leaders in leadership development. John and his wife, Jennifer, who is also a Stow-Munroe Falls City School District educator, are proud parents of Stow-Munroe Falls High School graduates, Suzanna, class of 2013, and Julianna, class of 2016. 

Jason Whitacre and his wife, Lisa, reside in Stow with their family. Whitacre was first elected to the Board of Education in 2017 and served from 2018 to 2021, including terms as board president in 2020 and vice president in 2021. During his previous board service, he helped establish the district’s facilities committee and later served on the committee as a community volunteer. Whitacre is a 1996 graduate of Girard High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Mount Union in 2000 and a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 2003. He currently practices law with Flynn, Keith, & Flynn LLC in Kent.

Tina Merlitti was raised in Stow and now resides in Munroe Falls with her husband, Adam Vanho, and their children Michael and Elizabeth. She currently works for the Summit County Engineer’s Office and has more than 28 years of experience in local government. Her previous roles include positions with Summit County Emergency Management and Akron City Council. Merlitti has been active in the Riverview, Lakeview, and Kimpton PTAs, served as president of the Akron Area League of Women Voters, and coached Stow Parks & Recreation programs.
