## Caption

During Black History Month, celebrate the life of a man who worked tirelessly towards freedom and the pursuit of education.

James Bradley was barely three years old when he was enslaved in Pendleton County, Kentucky. After eight years of working through the night, Bradley bought his freedom and moved to Cincinnati. He was admitted as the first African-American student to the Lane Seminary and participated in debates that furthered the abolitionist movement. Bradley become a voice of change and spoke directly and powerfully about his experiences.

In 1988, artist George Danhires created this statue. It is located roughly where it is believed that James Bradley crossed the Ohio River towards freedom.
