## Caption

Sailing into Vela ⛵ a constellation in the southern sky!

Just 1470 light-years from Earth is this pair of actively forming stars, Herbig-Haro 46/47, captured here in infrared light by the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope. The stars are at the centre of the red diffraction spikes, appearing as an orange-white splotch and surrounded by a disc of gas and dust ☁️

Also in the constellation Vela – but another 32 million light-years from Earth – is the spiral galaxy NGC 1433, snapped in the second image by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. It is a type of very active galaxy known as a Seyfert galaxy: a classification that accounts for 10% of all galaxies. They have very bright, luminous centres comparable to that of the Milky Way.
