January 5th is National Bird Day! For today, Howard letterpress printed a modern photo engraving of a bird that is native here to the Central Valley of California.  The idea for this cut was designed by one of our staff, Shawn, for our 2018 holiday card. The design for the die cut was sent to OWOSSO Graphic Arts, Inc. in Michigan to create the engraving. The print depicts a yellow-billed magpie on a tree branch with the word “peace” at the bottom. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852. #SacHistoryMuseum #NationalBirdDay #birds #sactiktok #printing
