Control map in Yemen as of Jan. 8, 2026

Since the beginning of 2026, Yemen has seen a shift in territorial control

• Forces loyal to the Southern Transitional Council have lost swathes of territory in southern and eastern Yemen to the Yemeni army and forces loyal to the internationally recognized government

• Government forces, backed by the international Saudi-led coalition, meanwhile, began entering and securing Aden on Jan. 7

• On the other hand, western Yemen, including the capital Sana'a, remains under Houthi control
