As this year wraps up, I have been thinking a lot about how we measure success, especially in creative careers. Somewhere along the way, “full time” became the gold standard, even when it does not always come with stability, structure, or peace of mind for everyone. I chased it with a lot of tenacity and hope, and while I learned so much, I also spent a long time in a constant state of anxiety. Not because I was not capable, but because I did not have the systems or support I needed. This is not a call for anyone to give up on their dreams. It is just saying the quiet parts out loud. Based on the response to my career pivot, it is clear a lot of people have been sitting with similar thoughts, quietly and without much space to talk about them. There is no shame in recognizing what you need, even when it does not match the mainstream narrative or fit neatly into a box.
