£60 to park your camper to climb Tre Cime. Don’t worry mate we’ll just hike it. 

This happened all by accident. We knew about the new toll To drive to the top of rifugio auronzo to start the Tre Cime Di Lavaredo hike. To avoid this I had planned to get the bus- what I didn’t think about was the possibility that Roo (my dog) wouldn’t be aloud on and the irregular bus times. So not having made a booking for the toll, instead of waiting for a slot we decided to hike the surrounding area starting at Lago Di Misurina. 

When we reached Lago d’Antorno we were absolutely loving life at 9:30am, the trail was beautiful through the forest and meadows with cows that we thought what the heck! On all trails there’s a path all the way up to Rifugio Auronzo let’s just take it! Can’t be that hard. (Even though no one else had left this route on All trails) 

It was fine, until the elevation really kicked in and we were indeed climbing on our hands and knees. 2 hours later absolutely starving we spent £25 each at the cafe, for some gnocchi and an apple juice (when you’re the only place on the mountain you can charge what you like) 

We then spent an hour and a half exploring the top. Whilst we didn’t get to see some of the famous highlights of the Tre Cime trails, the views we did see more than made for a successful hike. I also came to understand that actually Roo wouldn’t have been able to do some of the Tre Cime hike. 

I also came to learn that we could have parked at Lago d’Antorno as the toll starts after this. 

Overall I would recommend this hike, the forest and meadow is beautiful, as long as you’re okay with a climb and have someone who has just climbed to Everest base camp tell you that this is a walk in the park lauv.p. Also come prepared with hiking boots, I was set up for failure in trainers, very unprepared. 

Jokes aside even though it’s not on all trails, we passed lots of people doing the same, and if you’re harder than us, and like hiking all day, you could go on to also complete the Tre climb hike. You might be nuts, but deffo possible
