The 17th Annual firethistimefestival lights a fuse on the future of theater this winter at The Apollo Stages at The Victoria, igniting our legendary space with 6 world-premiere 10-minute plays that are bold, brilliant, and unapologetically of this moment. From laugh-out-loud humor to deeply moving, pointed, and political storytelling, these new works pulse with urgency and imagination, each one directed by visionary creator kenmattm. 

Founded in 2009 by kelleyngirod, The Fire This Time Festival, as part of #ApolloNewWorks, is a launchpad for early-career playwrights of African and African American descent. It is a vital engine for new voices supporting writers, directors, actors, and designers while building a pipeline of talent that resonates far beyond New York. Alumni of the Festival have gone on to stages, screens, and writers’ rooms across the country. What began as a spark has grown into a January destination for discovery, dialogue, and daring new work.
