## Caption

The Pittsburgh restaurants that debuted in 2015 covered a range of cuisine, format and scale. Tying them together was a clearer sense of identity and a level of ambition that marked the apex of a period when independent operators committed to intentional concepts and forward-thinking approaches to menu design, sourcing, staffing and neighborhood engagement.

A surprising number of those restaurants are now rolling into their second decade as places to keep near the top of your “must dine at soon” list. They matured, evolved and endured through a pandemic that shuttered a good number of spots. They now form the nexus of Pittsburgh dining.

These restaurants bucked a common trend: Roughly half of eateries don’t make it to their fifth anniversary, and only about 3 in 10 are still around after a decade.

To recognize what the Class of 2015 accomplished, dining critic Hal B. Klein honors them with some senior superlatives.
