practicing julius eastman with the recording of the man himself

i first heard this piece sometime my first year (i think) of grad school and was a) absolutely floored, particularly by the last 7 or so minutes, from which this video comes and the part that comes after. this piece, like the bach chaconne, the rodrigo invocacion y danza, mahler 2, etc. is one in which im not really sure what one could possibly say after hearing it. it's something that deserves a hearty serving of silence after and b) legitimately upset that at no point in the course of my musical upbringing was i ever exposed to this music that for my money is way, way cooler than what they teach you about minimalism in school.

kinda randomly in the spring @moncketeer texted me asking if i had ever heard of julius eastman (how she knows so much i'll never really understand) and so i listened to the piece again. my obsessive ass thought "maybe i could play this on guitar" and so i asked @cwclassicalgtr something like "hey what do you think of this" and of course she was interested

so in august i sat down and figured it out. i was not truly sure that playing a piece commonly performed on 4 pianos would sound like anything other than overcooked oatmeal on two electric guitars but goddamn i think i've done it and let me tell you i am so relieved and excited and proud that this crazy idea will be performed next weekend in lexington and louisville!!!!!
