one of my favorite moments of the piece, the very ending, where the weird chromatic third modulations (this time with a dominant pedal over or i guess technically under it 🤓) give way to one last presentation of the mendelssohn theme that's not able to ever fully escape the strange neighbor tone gesture from the very opening as our memories of the past are forever shaded by our present
