J Pinkans ‘24 is looking to make a positive impact in the healthcare industry. The junior is a major in Biology with a focus in Human Biology, and they have been interested in healthcare since high school. 

Pinkans is an active EMT, and they already have a goal in mind on where they want to go as a PA: gender-affirming healthcare. Gender-affirming care puts focus on transgender and non-binary patients with specific needs that are sometimes not met by traditional providers. When speaking about their passion for the field, Pinkans said, “I haven’t seen many non-binary or transgender PA’s, so I’m hoping that as a non-binary person I can form better relationships with my patients and give them better care.”

While Pinkans is involved in a work-intensive field, they are also very active in extracurriculars, saying, “I’m super involved with music and admissions! I’m the secretary of the band, and I’m also a tour guide, and I’m on the Admissions’ Student Leader Board!”

For students in the medical sciences who might be struggling, Pinkans recommends keeping a schedule. “I schedule EVERYTHING that I have to do, from studying to class. It’s SO helpful. It can be difficult, but you’ve got this!”
