In this installment of Navigating Spaces—a video series in which alumni talk about how they found a sense of belonging at Lafayette—Dr. Will Keough ’90 (biology, music minor) recalls the fears and difficulties that accompanied coming out during the 1980s. He also shares stories of support from friends, family, and the Lafayette community, including Prof. Nancy Waters and Prof. Suzanne Westfall.

"At Lafayette College we do not shy away from reflecting on our past. On the contrary, we embrace the opportunity to learn and grow from it," shares Tommy Lee, assistant director for gender and sexuality programs. "From the establishment of the vital spaces like the Gender & Sexuality Resource Center and Lavender Lane, to poignant stories captured through the Queer Archives Project, our institution has come a long way in affirming and meaningfully including our LGBTQIA+ community while striving to continue to improve and do better. I always enjoy taking time to pause during Pride Month, which itself is both a celebration and recollection of our LGBTQIA+ history, to commemorate all that our queer and trans students and their allies have achieved in the past year to transform our campus and to dream how to make Lafayette College the best it can be." #PrideMonth
