LIONS DEFEAT CARLSBAD UNITED: The jserrahockey team produced its' third straight victory on Saturday with a 7-5 triumph over Carlsbad United at Ice Realm Carlsbad.

The Lions are now 14-2 overall on the season and enjoy a four-point lead over Orange Lutheran for first place in the Division 3 Valley Conference.

Freshman Kyle Bennett opened the scoring with a goal assisted by junior Griffin Blake at the 13:44 mark of the first period to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.

Carlsbad United tied the contest at 1-1 later in the period, but the Lions answered with four straight goals.

Blake scored a power play goal (assisted by junior Landon Pacheco) before Bennett found the back of the net (assisted by Blake) 58 seconds later to give the Lions a 3-1 lead after the first period.

Blake and junior Emmet Murphy each scored unassisted goals in the second period to stretch the Lions’ lead to 5-1.

Carlsbad United answered right back with four straight goals, tying the game with 10:58 left in the third period.

Pacheco produced the game-deciding score on a power play with 2:44 remaining in regulation, assisted by senior Cassius Millett.

Blake completed his hat trick with 1:25 left in the game, assisted by Bennett.

Junior goalie Jacob White secured 27 saves for the Lions.
