As #BrittneyGriner prepares for her appeal hearing later this month, her wife #CherelleGriner sat down for her first interview since Brittney was sentenced to nine years in a Russian prison for attempted drug smuggling.

During her interview with Gayle King, Cherelle shared that she has spoken to Brittney two times on the phone since she’s been locked up in Russia. She says during the first phone call she was delighted to hear Brittney’s voice and thought Brittney was okay. However, she says after the second phone call with Brittney, that became the “most disturbing” phone call she has experienced. Cherelle continued to share that she could tell that Brittney had suffered to the maximum that particular day.

While expressing that she could see that Brittney is not herself at the moment, she shared that Brittney said to her, “My life just don’t even matter no more.
