To stay motivated on the road to recovery, consider these tips for creating motivating goals:

🧠 1. Start Small, Start Now
The key is to feel challenged but not overwhelmed by your goal. That way, you can stay motivated to take daily activities necessary to see results.

🧠 2. Be SMART About It
S.M.A.R.T. goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Results-focused, and Time-bound. Once goals are measurable, it becomes clear how to set your next goal. For instance, if you can accomplish 5 reps of a leg exercise, your next goal can be 10 reps, then 15, and so on.

🧠 3. Don’t Compare Your Journey to Someone Else’s
If one person recovers within six months, and you’re going into your second-year post-stroke, don’t let that discourage you from taking action toward recovery.

"All my life, I had worked hard to achieve the things I cared about, and generally did so without much help. Academics. Sports. Fitness. For years I made room for an intense job and attentive parenthood, alongside a spouse I loved who did the same. We both paused our careers for a year to homeschool our kids and live on a sailboat as a family, a dream Steve and I first talked about before we were married. There were hundreds of reasons not to do it, but we figured it out. When a wall stood between me and my goals, I did whatever it took to climb the wall or break through it. It never occurred to me that the stroke would be any different." Read more about Deb's journey & goal setting in her book, link in bio. ⚡
