After tearing his Achilles in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, Tyrese Haliburton spent the summer rehabbing in an empty gym while the rest of the league moved on. The isolation was new. The silence was loud.

In an exclusive conversation with The Athletic, Haliburton opens up about reliving the injury, leaning on a growing “village” of family, teammates and fellow athletes who’ve been through the same thing, including reaching out to Indianapolis Colts QB Daniel Jones after his own Achilles tear.

Away from the court, he found new ways to stay connected to the game and to himself: content creation, broadcasting, gaming, even learning how to DJ. Small wins, new routines and a different perspective.

Now back around his teammates and closer to his return, Haliburton is embracing the long road ahead, believing the journey back might make reaching the destination even sweeter.
