On this #WildWednesday of #AmphibianWeek, we’re highlighting the importance of wild lands for our amphibian neighbors. This park is a wild refuge surrounded by developed and managed lands - just look at that satellite image! Can you find the outline of the park, in darker, denser green? For the Olympic Peninsula’s 13 species of frogs, toads, newts, and salamanders, that is a refuge of clean water, free-flowing rivers, and protected wetlands. 

Amphibians are in decline worldwide—populations are falling at rate of over 3% a year, and 40% of all species are considered threatened. In a drying world, protected lands like parks can be a stronghold as land use intensifies outside their boundaries, protecting rare species—and helping our common species stay common!
