FURTHER Perseverance kicks off tomorrow... HUNT Beyond rider Rich Rothwell is a glutton for punishment and is back for his second hit of the brutal Pyreneean route . “Last year’s edition really caught my imagination with the incredible scenery and the huge variety in terrain. Huge road climbs, big hike a bikes, fast singletrack and high speed rocky descents. Perseverance has it all. What set up is best for Perseverance is possibly an unanswerable question (climbing gear and a parachute maybe?).

However, I am a mountain biker at heart so mountain bike it is, and a hardtail that will squeeze the most fun out of the huge descents. My slack angled Orange p7 trail hardtail is a wicked descender but of course Perseverance includes a massive amount of climbing and hike a bike, so I’m dropping weight where I can and using a set of Hunt XC Wide. 

I’ve come to maximise the riding fun. Will that be fastest approach? I’ll find out soon."
