Today we are highlighting Dr. Christopher Anderson, a headache fellow (Dr. in training for the specialty field of headache medicine) at Mayo Clinic in Arizona.

Dr. Anderson first became interested in the field of headache medicine after shadowing Dr. Fawad Khan, at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, LA. He shares that he finds "treating chronic pain can be an intellectually-challenging and rewarding pursuit." 

In addition to his fellowship, Dr. Anderson enrolled in the Miles for Migraine advocacy training program, ACT NOW. He describes the 9 month program as very eye-opening. "In particular, I have learned that the impact of migraine-related disability is much greater than I previously imagined. One thing I was surprised to learn was the role that stigma plays not only in reducing access to adequate care for patients but also in limiting funding for research. I was also fascinated by the session focusing on insurance claims and how providers and their patients can team up to change policies to get adequate coverage."

Dr. Anderson is currently working with us to plan to the 7th annual Miles for Migraine Phoenix Walk/Run/Relax coming up on March 11th. He's excited about seeing headache specialists from all over the Phoenix area united for the common cause of raising awareness and funds to support Phoenix area headache fellowship programs and their research.
