"I was going through my son's Valentines from his class party at school and came across this one. It broke my heart, and then pieced it back together. ⁠

Being neurodivergent in a world not made to adequately accept and support you is exhausting. Physically. Mentally. Spiritually. ⁠
⁠
Like most parents, one of my main worries is that my child won't find a place to belong. To be seen and accepted. Neurodivergence adds a different dimension to this worry and compounds it. However, this Valentine's Day gives me hope. ⁠

Hope that as I talk with my child about self-acceptance, another child is being taught about accepting others that are different from the neuro-majority. ⁠
⁠
Hope that as I work with my child on self-regulation and making it right when his big feelings impact others, another child is learning that everyone's growth unfolds in their own time. ⁠
⁠
Hope that there are other teachers like my child's that work tirelessly to create a welcoming and inclusive environment. ⁠
⁠
Hope that there is a future where people of all neurotypes can learn from each other without ego and defensiveness. ⁠
⁠
Hope that even though life can be hard as it expands, contracts, and breaks our hearts, it can also put us back together."⁠
