In January, Sandy and John celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary doing something they do every other Tuesday: Donating platelets. ❤️

"Our journey with the American Red Cross has been a long one. John started donating whole blood years before we got married. As a teacher, he figured that it was a good and pretty easy thing to do; and it helps so many. 

"After we got married, I asked him if he would take me too. We used to race to see who could donate a pint of whole blood first! Our phlebotomists didn't care for that too much, but we had fun sneaking in a race every now and then."

John and Sandy began giving platelets at the encouragement of a friend who was battling cancer.

They know the Red Cross staff well because of their frequent donations and lovingly call them "the kids." John has even gone so far as to provide his famous spaghetti with homemade sauce! He brought in a crockpot full of sauce and a big bowl of noodles. The couple wanted to celebrate their belief that the staff are the real heroes of the donation process. 🍝
