01/02/23- Shortly after 1:00PM, Atlanta Firefighters responded to the Westin Hotel Downtown for a reported structure fire. atlantafirerescue crews arrived to find flames showing from the antenna atop the 73 story building. 

Engine 6 made the roof to find a radio transmitter affixed high on the antenna on fire with molten plastic dropping down to the rooftop below. This caused an area of the roof’s rubber membrane to also catch fire. 

Power was isolated to the antenna’s burning component and that fire ultimately burned itself out. Atlanta Firefighter’s initially set up a high rise pack for the attack line but due to the extreme electrical hazard on the roof the membrane fire was extinguished with drychem extinguishers.
