IE11: Alpaca Kinda
We woke up this morning and headed straight to a briefing where we were introduced to yet another new movement. It was a new rope climb standard with new rules on ascent, descent and rope placement. It left a lot of grey area. There were a lot of questions asked and some semi satisfying answers. Basically it’s a constant argument with them telling us “what they want to see” and is asking “what counts”. We’re all trying to gain a competitive advantage and as workouts like this progress strict gymnastics breaks down. It looked like a lot of the workout would come down to strict legless up and down rope climbs.
The original alpaca event looked pretty cool and i was excited about it. a nice mix of grunt work and high skill gymnastics, but unfortunately we didn’t get to do it. With a big rainstorm around all morning they decided the rope climbs would be unsafe and removed them leaving only a sled and KB workout. Completely different.
As the big boys rejoiced in the back we tried to simulate what the sled load/unload would be like with limited equipment. We immediately found that the fully loaded sled was VERY hard to move, and lots of guys were slipping. As people frantically changed shoes we were called out hoping the wet turf would behave differently. In short, it did. The sled felt way better on the field.
I took a slower and steadier approach to this workout, trying to just be steady but not overly aggressive on the sled, recovering, then trying to do smaller sets and take smaller breaks on the KB.
It worked great and I was able to move to the front in the last round and wind up in a sled push off with samuelkwant to the finish, which I lost 😂. I’ll take a top3 in a workout like this all day. Very unpredictable. I think with the rope climbs i may have had an edge, and I know we’ll see those again. apbozman was disappointed to lose those.
