First off it can’t be understated how happy people were to be swimming in a pool this year and not getting sick or kicked in the head swimming In the lake 😂.
I didn’t sleep much the night before. Mostly just laid in my bed in a cold sweat still recovering from the heat 🤕. Getting in the water for a lower impact workout was a good way to start the day.
Thé pool was very cool. It gave an opportunity to make the event way more spectator friendly and also Introduce some fun new elements and make a more “crossfity” swim workout.
I’ve been working on my swimming efficiency a lot so I was looking forward to seeing how this went.
When the workout got announced it was actually a lot about the ski. Being a good swimmer basically give you more time to hammer those last two skis, but we didn’t really expect many of the men to be getting cut before then. The first 6 rounds were just a buy in.
For the first 6 rounds the goal was to swim relaxed and not worry about being fast l, there was lots of time to ski and it’s better to not spike your heart rate before the two AMRAP rounds.
When we got to the last round @roman_khrennikov turned to hype thé crowd. We all knew what was coming right then. The man was about to tear apart that ski.
I took a more nuanced approach and To be honest I think I’m still a bit in my own head in the water. I held back a bit in the first round of the AMRAP so I wouldn’t be too messed up on my last swim, but I didn’t need to. With only 50 yards of swimming remaining those last two rounds needed to be all out. I over paced. I needed to send and probably put my damper up. Noted.
Once thé évent was done I was frustrated by another low swim finish, especially considering it was more about the ski than the swim, and I’m pretty solid ok the ski. After touching the sun the day before I felt like I didn’t have the confidence to really attack.
Thé good news is that workout was almost more of a flush and I was feeling a little more ready for the day than I was before. We had another hot one coming up this afternoon!
