IE7: Steady as she goes
Back in the coliseum for another workout announcement, there was a rumor circulating that we’d be going really heavy. we took the floor and saw nothing but bikes and handstand push ups walls… gotcha!
Was a nice medley of grunt work and gymnastics, something for big boys and something for small boys, with an added twist. the new handstand variation. The workout looked super fun and most of us were thankful it wasn’t just an all gas echo bike sprint.
We all figured the HSPU would be the crux of the workout as deficit strict HSPU often are, so the first 3 bikes would have to be controlled but they couldn’t resist throwing a full send bike at the end just for good measure. You cross that bridge when you get to it.
The standard on the handstand had two sticking points to it:
1) getting into starting position. you had to walk up the blocks so it was like an extra HSPU, if you really pushed failure this could get really hard.
2) we weren’t touching our heads to anything and couldn’t see the line so it was hard to know if you hit depth on not. You don’t want to lose reps, but you don’t want to be doing 2 extra inches of deficit every rep either. Everyone was spiking their hair up for some last minute fitness 😂
We filmed reps in the back to try and figure out the depth. I found that if I just pecked my nose onto the block that was about right and it gave me something to focus on. Some guys are handstand push up machines, but I knew i couldn’t afford to lose reps in this workout.
HSPU heroes could send it a little but for most people it was about managing for the last round. I went conservative from the start doing 5/3/2 with short reps each set. I was second last off the first wall in our heat, but fortunately for me the men are greedy pigs and most went too big too early. The wheels started to fall off in the last round and I was able to coast by. I got on the bike a little after @saxon_panchik but was able to blitz and pass him on the final sprint for third in the heat.
My body was starting to feel a little better and i executed this workout really well. Top 10 in a strict HSPU workout is a great day for me. Time to get a really good sleep.
