IE3: Stressful Skills
A rain delay postponed event 2 so we moved to 3. they were updating us every 30 minutes, so everyone was at the venue the whole time just slowly eating in case we got the nod.
At the event announcement there were a LOT of questions. A sprint elimination with tons of new movements. Any errors would be extremely costly. Sure this event will have 100 appeals
As an ex gymnast the new handstand skills didn’t bother me, but the legless pegboard and double under crossover would be interesting. the descent standard had some of the taller athletes needing to be very careful not to touch their feet on the mat before getting below the line. Losing one of those reps would be EXTREMELY expensive. As for the crossover the biggest trouble is that we weren’t well equipped for it. A longer and heavier rope makes it much easier. Our short and light speed cables are great for efficiency at double unders but terrible for crossovers 😂
My goal was just to make it to that last round. The cuts were aggressive and anything can happen with only 5 competitors left. You can afford a small mistake in round one and none in round 2 if you want to advance which makes you overthink the simplest things, like single unders and double unders…
First round the plan was relaxed and smooth. I figured enough people would make mistakes that it would be enough. I did trip on singles but only 10 in so I was ok. I tried not to watch other heats go to avoid watching hearts break live.
I was in the first heat of semi finals so I got to be the crash test dummy for the legless climbs.
Time for more aggression. I looked at @willmoorad next to me and asked if he’d ever done these. “Nope”. Me neither, either way it’ll be a PR 🤷🏼‍♂️
We both shot out and were first through the climbs and smooth for the rest Setting some fast times for the next heat to chase. As Will came across the line I gave him a big hug and whispered “PR” in his ear 🫂
the final came down to the rope. I struggled off the start as my judge made me change my crossover technique. No time for questions in a 3 minute workout. I limped through and managed a tie for 3rd but didn’t get a crack at the parallettes. Next time…
