IE1: Bicycle Burnout
I was looking forward to this workout after it got announced. Besides getting to wear cute little helmets for some toes to bar and chest to bar it also was a chance for some redemption on the bike. For those not doing their homework, I’ve been involved in crashes both times I’ve done biking events at the games. Priority number 1: keep it on two wheels.
I knew it was a lot of biking, but when you’re riding in groups the time really flies by because of the focus required so I didn’t overthink it. I knew the legs would burn.
Right before we took the field the gave us our equipment and my helmet was broken, solid start. A frantic replacement flew in just in time for us to stand on the field legit forever before starting. I think everyone had a nervous pee in the tank.
We were split into groups of 4 for a “first come first serve” run the the rig, but we all decided our bars before hand because we’re not animals. It’s gonna be hard enough, I don’t want to wrestle someone as I go.
Opening toes to bar were quick and easy so I got out with the lead pack on the bike. I probably didn’t have the pace to be riding with them… but pack riding is more efficient to I pushed it to stay there.
Before the race started BKG called for the rain to start right when we get to the chest to bars, turns out he must be a meteorologist. Rain moved in and those pull ups hit everyone like a brick wall.
I got back on the bike in pretty rough shape, told myself I needed a lap to regroup then would start to push, but I struggled to get any power back in my legs. I kept dropping off the back of packs and so I was losing efficiency when I desperately needed it. The last 3 laps were dark as I bled placings moving into the finish. Should have just done 4 laps 😉
It wasn’t the worst finish ever but it never feels great to limp to the finish. Turns out agression at the start was not the move for me, but hey, no crash 🤷🏼‍♂️.
Alas, We move on!
