The Indoor Football League is proud to announce the Players of the Week for Week 5 of the 2022 season. Massachusetts Quarterback, Alejandro Bennifield took Offensive Player of the Week. Arizona Rattlers Defensive Back, Devontae Merriweather earned Defensive Player of the Week. Special Teams Player of the Week goes to Benjamin Jones of the Tucson Sugar Skulls.

Alejandro Bennifield – OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Week 5 showed us that offenses across the league are starting to click. Fast-paced action was plentiful with five teams putting up over 50 points. With this much production on display, someone needs to be particularly impressive to stand out. Enter Alejandro Bennifield. Bennifield had a career day completing 19 of 29 passes for 262 yards and six touchdowns as the defending champions of the Indoor Football League, Massachusetts Pirates, defeated the Bismarck Bucks 54-43 at the Bismarck Event Center. The Pirates are now 3-0 on the season and have won 14 straight dating back to last season.

Devontae Merriweather – DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Arizona Rattlers defense has been outstanding. The Rattlers are now 4-0 and are allowing an average of less than 20 points per game. They have already been awarded DPOTW twice in four weeks. It’s time to add another to the list. The Rattlers intercepted four Knight Hawks' passes on Friday night. One of the three was a pick six by Rattlers' defensive back Devontae Merriweather, who took the ball 35 yards for the score. Merriweather also added five tackles and a pass break-up to his pick six.

Benjamin Jones – SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Tucson Sugar Skulls lost a heartbreaker on Saturday night. They put up the most points in franchise history only to give up a 17-point fourth quarter lead in a 67-66 loss to the San Diego Strike Force. However, there were multiple bright spots to take away from their performance. One of them being the electric return game of Benjamin Jones. Jones had tallied eight returns, totaling 215 yards. That is good for 26.8 yards per return, including an impressive 50-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the 4th quarter.
