Briana Koutros ’23 is a senior at Marist with a double major in Sports Communication and Digital Video Production, and she’s known what she’s wanted to do for a long time: “I knew I wanted to study sports, and I always knew I wanted to grow up to work in television…at 6 years old I was like, ‘I know I’m going to work in TV.’”

Koutros has an impressive resumé; she’s worked at big name companies back to back: “I started at FOX Sports, and then I went to FOX Entertainment, back to FOX Sports, and then I was at The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon for 8 months, then I went abroad…and then I came back, and now I’m interning at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

“At The Tonight Show, I started off with social media, then I was a writer’s intern, then I was with the music and talent department, and then at The Late Show I do more of everything, so it’s like writers one day, you can work with talent one day, work with scripts, working all around and stuff like that. In the beginning it was definitely overwhelming,” Koutros stated.

When asked about what helped her forward during her internships, Koutros said that reaching out for connections really benefited her. She said, “When I first started interning it was all on Zoom…I would just be in the meeting, and whichever big boss was speaking in the meeting, I’d write their name down and be like ‘I want to get a one-on-one with them.’ That’s what furthered me throughout the process. I think it’s so important to just ask questions, and with an internship, you’re meant to learn.”

In regards to the future, Koutros “hasn’t put sports on the backburner just yet,” and is excited to see what there is to explore in that world. She stated, “I just love what I get to do. My goal in life is to just make people happy, and I think television has that outlet.”
