*According to Ernst and Young, athletes have claimed up to 600 million in financial fraud related losses. Keep in mind, that’s only the reported don’t forget about the claims that weren’t reported due to embarrassment or being handled before it went public.  @sportsillustrated recently came out with a great piece on this dilemma about one financial advisor. Peggy was known as the go to plug for helping athletes reach the pinnacle of their financial well being. Peggy worked with top athletes including Ricky Davis and Dennis Rodman. Sports Illustrated uncovers the lies, corruption, and fraud Peggy committed on her athletes throughout her history as a financial manager. --------
As athletes it's so difficult to know who the right financial manager is for you until mistakes are being made. What can athletes do to combat this situation and what red flags should they look out for:

Full power of attorney [Never give full control of your finances]
Name dropping other athletes/celebrities but no proof of relationships [Don't believe a manager who is quick to highlight relationships with celebrities, make sure you fact check them]
Work for Free [Nothing ever comes for free, if you aren't paying them for their services than how are they getting compensated or making a living]
Limelight [A financial advisor that wants to be out in the nightlife or at all the events should be looked at cautiously]
