Recently I met Alex Serrano, 27, at a car meet and instantly recognized his purple + yellow car as a tribute to Kobe Bryant. But even better, Alex’s car is a pristine, rather rare Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 which he says is a blast to drive through windy canyon roads.

“Slap some sticky tires on it, the all-wheel steering and all-wheel drive — it can keep up with almost any car out here,” he told me. “If you build it right.”

The 3000GT is an amazing ‘90s relic and Alex has even found like-minded fans. They’re called socal3s and within minutes there were three other VR-4s lined up next to Alex.

When I told a friend about this pack afterward he said, “There’s enough of them for a pack?” Apparently so. And that warms my heart.
