Brighton-based charity The Sussex Beacon has announced plans to become the UK’s first dedicated LGBTQ+ hospice with an HIV specialism, aiming to provide inclusive end-of-life care for people who have often faced discrimination within healthcare settings.

The project is designed to support LGBTQ+ patients with complex or life-limiting illnesses, as well as their partners, chosen families, and carers.

Chris Ward, MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven had this to say about The Sussex Beacon after a visit to discuss the charity’s plans, “Brighton has always led the way in inclusive healthcare, and the Beacon’s plans for the future - including its pioneering approach to LGBTQ+ hospice care - demonstrate how local services can innovate while putting people at the heart of care."
