It’s actually happened! Jakob Chychrun is an Ottawa Senator!

And somehow Dorion only gave up three picks. The first is top-5 protected, which moves to an unprotected 2024 first if the condition is met. If the Sens reach the Eastern conference finals this year, the second becomes a 2024 first, top-10 protected. 

A few months ago, the ask included at least one of Pinto or Greig. Not trading either of them, even a single prospect, is remarkable work by the Sens. 

Chychrun, 24, was a first overall OHL pick to the Sarnia Sting, where he had a very good two season. Since being drafted 16th overall in 2016 to Arizona, he’s played in 373 games, scoring 60 goals and 170 points. He has had a few injuries in the past few seasons, but is an elite top-4 defenceman. He is a perfect pickup for Ottawa, just like DeBrincat was. He’s sat for a few weeks now, so I’m not sure if he’ll be put into games just yet or if he needs to get back up to speed. 

Chychrun is signed for two seasons after this one at $4.6 million per year. Would assume he’d play the right side to fit in the top four. 

A defence of Chabot, Zub, Sanderson, Chychrun, Brannstrom, Hamonic/Holden, and Kleven on the way is ridiculously nasty.
