#TSRPolitics: Chilee! Venezuelan opposition leader #MaríaCorinaMachado revealed that she presented President #DonaldTrump with her Nobel Peace Prize medal during a private meeting at the White House, per cnn. Machado says the gesture was meant as “a recognition for his unique commitment with our freedom.” She shared the news during a press conference after the meeting; however, the White House has not confirmed whether Trump officially accepted the medal.

The meeting comes amid major political shifts in Venezuela. As we reported earlier this month, President Trump ordered a U.S. military operation that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan leader #NicolásMaduro, a move that shocked the global community. Since then, the Trump administration has seized control of Venezuela’s oil reserves, completing its first sale on January 14 for $500 million, with the proceeds currently held in U.S.-controlled accounts.

In addition, since Trump ordered the arrest of Maduro he has signaled support for Maduro’s ally Delcy Rodriguez Venezuela’s interim President, calling her “terrific,” while slighting Machado as not respected enough by Venezuelans to be their next leader. Despite meeting with Trump, Machado’s political future remains uncertain.
