Over the weekend, Center staff joined thousands of people in the South River Forest of Atlanta, Georgia, to reclaim an area known as the Weelaunee People's Park and re-establish the Stop Cop City protest camp raided by police in January.

In 2021, the nonprofit organization American Rivers named the South River the 4th most endangered river in the United States, citing "the egregious threat that ongoing sewage pollution poses to clean water and public health."

Clearing these forests to build a police-training facility (dubbed Cop City) will only serve to further degrade the river — part of a watershed that supplies drinking water to millions of people downstream — and endanger the more than 175 species of wildlife who live there.

We are at Atlanta City Hall right now hand-delivering the signatures we received on a petition to permanently protect the South River Forest. It’s not too late to sign and take a stand for this incredible place. (🔗 in bio.)
