After surviving �a stroke, rehab helps to regain as many and as much of former capabilities as possible. But there is another less visible and sometimes even more challenging aspect of recovery — the emotional journey to rebuild identities and rewarding lives. Survivors often face dramatic changes to their lives and opportunities — relationships with family and friends, work and income, activities and hobbies, and more.

Recovery is simultaneously �a physical and emotional journey. It’s the effort to regain lost capabilities, and the effort to rebuild your identity - a strong sense of self and a life of meaning, purpose, and pleasure.

Are you struggling with your new identity post-stroke?

Remember, identity is a choice - the question isn’t “who AM I now”; it is “who do I WANT TO BE now?” Disabilities may limit choices, but they don’t have to dictate who you are.
