For this week’s story of #HowWeMetAtRU, we have Katherine & Ryan Christie ✨

"It was the Fall of 1996, and I was just beginning my freshman season as a linebacker for the Scarlet Knights. As I entered the Crosby dorm on Busch Campus, I held the door for Katherine, who was walking out. With her smile and a simple 'thanks,' my world changed forever. Before I could find the words, she was gone. I walked from where she came from and stopped at the first room I found. I saw six names on the board and wondered if any belonged to the girl who stole my heart. I left a quick note: 'To the girl with the Adidas bag…I held the door for you today. Please come talk to me! Room 3303 ❤️ #50.' 

After a day, I resigned myself to the belief that she was way out of my league. Then came a knock at my door. One of my teammates answered and was overheard saying, '#50? That’s Ryan!' Immediately, the room erupted, and I quickly realized I had not thought this through! With my teammates pushing me to the door, I stared down the hall as two girls walked away. As they turned back, Katherine asked, 'Who was the note for?' I nervously replied, 'For you, the girl with the Adidas bag.' Once it hit her, she yelled, 'Girl with the Adidas bag? That’s me!' As fate would have it, we registered for the same geology class in the Spring. She took the seat next to me, and we have been inseparable ever since. 

We graduated in 2000, with Katherine completing Business School with a near-perfect GPA. I proposed in Johnson Park, and we married in 2002. Today, with our two beautiful sons, Riley and Ryder, Katherine and I still enjoy time on The Banks at football and soccer games. Thank you, RU. You will forever be our first home. Soulmates forever…"
