A $175 million gift from P. Roy Vagelos (VP&S’54) and Diana Vagelos (BC’55) toward biomedical research education will create a new academic model at ColumbiaMed dedicated to spurring scientific breakthroughs, solving longstanding medical problems, and growing the ranks of talented early-career researchers.

“The Vagelos Institute for Biomedical Research Education will have an enormous impact in harnessing the power of science to transform clinical care,” says Katrina Armstrong, dean of Columbia’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. 

“The reward for this effort will be unprecedented strides forward in curing disease and treating illness. It’s an opportunity—and a responsibility—we must embrace.”
