8Ball & MJG with Geneva (on the right) 1990.

Memphis, Tennessee. 

8Ball & MJG was signed to Universal Records, the same label as Atlanta’s rap group Ghetto Mafia. When 8Ball & MJG thought Ghetto Mafia had some lyrics dissing them around 1997, they would end up getting booked for a show in Texas. Ghetto Mafia was suppose to had a show in South Carolina the same date they were offered to come to Houston. The promoter insisted on buying out the South Carolina show & giving the group extra money to come perform in Houston. Not aware of any tension, Ghetto Mafia got in the van, was heading to Texas for the first time to make a appearance at Club Jamaica Jamaica. 

When Ghetto Mafia arrived, it was 5 of them including the driver and the parking lot was packed. As Wicked from Ghetto Mafia was walking towards where he needed to go, he would hear someone say “Ghetto Mafia wassup with all that shit now?” with MJG right beside him, and multiple dudes with vests & guns. 8Ball started confronting Wicked because he felt like the song “Pussy Ass Nigga” was about him. Wicked was standing his ground & explaining that he heard they thought the song was about them but passed a message to Big Duke to tell them it wasn’t (who was signed to Suave House at the time, later a member of Boyz N The Hood & knew Ghetto Mafia as they were all from Decatur). Big Duke was in the crowd of multiple dudes and came up to the front to talk with Wicked. 

As Wicked is talking, he gets a tap on the shoulder and heard a voice saying “Fuck them, we dont want them in the city anyway” It was J.Prince men. He had sent multiple goons to protect Ghetto Mafia because everybody from Suave House & RapALot knew that 8Ball was coming to the club that night with guns to confront them. Tensions was already in the city between Suave House & RapALot. All 3 collectives was in the parking lot. Wicked & 8Ball would sit down to talk and resolve their problems. Everything would later be good between all the camps involved.
