Olyvia Young ‘25 is itching to take on the fashion world in her own way. The sophomore is a Fashion Merchandising major with double concentrations in Promotion and Product Development, and also a minor in Journalism.

“I think fashion is much more a language and an art more than the clothes that we wear. I think there’s something kind of unifying about trends, and we all get dressed in the morning, we all get undressed at night, we all are doing our best and trying to look our best, there’s something really human about that, and I like being in the middle of it,” she said.

Young is currently dipping into the editorial world by being a writer for Measure Magazine, Marist’s fashion magazine. So far, she loves writing for the magazine, and says that getting to be a part of Measure’s editorial team this year is something she’s passionate about: “There’s so much work going into it behind the scenes, and I think when people see where we’re taking the magazine they’ll like it, we’re having a whole relaunch this year, so it’s new and fresh and fun!”

When asked what her current favorite fashion trend is at the moment, Young’s answer was “Gorpcore”: “I’m a Seattle native, so I’m really into Gorpcore right now, which is like the idea of effortlessness and really chic, but staying really functional.”

As for where Young will end up after she graduates, London is catching her eye right now. The sophomore stated, “If I had to graduate tomorrow and start my dream job, I think I’d want to be in London. Fashion and writing in London right now is crazy, and I think I could bring in a little redhead flair!”
