No. 11 Vanderbilt stayed perfect on Saturday, leaning on balance, ball movement, and early momentum to pull away from South Carolina for an 83–71 win and a 14–0 start to the season.

Playing without leading scorer Duke Miles for the second straight game, the Commodores didn’t miss a beat. AK Okereke jump-started the afternoon with a three-pointer during a 13–0 run that gave Vanderbilt a 15–4 lead in the opening six minutes. South Carolina responded with a push late in the half, trimming the deficit to 34–30, but Vanderbilt closed strong. Another Okereke triple sparked an 8–4 finish to the half, sending the Commodores into the break up 42–34.

Any hopes of a Gamecocks rally were quickly erased after halftime. Vanderbilt opened the second half with a decisive 12–3 run and maintained control the rest of the way, never allowing South Carolina to seriously threaten.

Tyler Tanner orchestrated the offense with 19 points and a career-high 14 assists, while Okereke added 17. Tyler Nickel knocked down four three-pointers on his way to 16 points, and Devin McGlockton chipped in 15 as Vanderbilt placed five players in double figures. The Commodores shot better than 50% from the field, outrebounded South Carolina 37–25, and did not have a single shot blocked.

Elijah Strong paced the Gamecocks with 17 points, but South Carolina struggled to keep up with Vanderbilt’s depth and efficiency.

The win marks Vanderbilt’s best start since the 2007–08 season and sets up a major home test against No. 14 Alabama next. With LSU also looming, the Commodores have a chance to match the program’s best-ever 16–0 start if this level of play continues.
