Imagine being 7 years old, spending months in the hospital for treatment related to cancer or a heart transplant. Then, along comes the best medicine of the day with a wagging tail and four paws. 🐕‍🦺 

At children’s hospitals across the country, our expertly trained #facilitydogs brighten even the hardest days with their cold noses and unconditional love. ❤️ 

Working across different units in several of the nation’s largest pediatric #hospitals, they support children and their families through diagnoses, difficult rehabilitation and, at times, end-of-life moments — they're there when they are needed most.

Many Canine Companions facility dogs are expertly trained to work with certified child life specialists as they assist sick and healing pediatric patients in acute care, cardiac ICU, cancer units and pediatric ICU.

“Our physical and occupational therapists track the impact Crosby’s integration has on patient engagement during sessions,” says Certified Child Life Specialist Shelby at texaschildrens. “The impact is huge. A patient might not be willing to get out of bed, fearful of the pain of walking. When kids are given the chance to walk with Crosby, it only takes minutes for them to try.”

Facility dogs are often a patient’s first exposure to working dogs. They inspire patients and families to look to a future that includes an expertly trained #servicedog. 🐕‍🦺
