A New Mexico sheriff is refusing to recover reported human remains.
And we want to know why.
In this video, we quote Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Kim "K.K." Stewart in her own words.
She has publicly claimed:
The bones we report are “prehistoric.”
(Including remains found with cell phones, IDs, modern clothing, and prayer cards.)
That community volunteers are “planting bones.”
That “none of these deaths are suspicious.”
Let’s be very clear.
Battalion Search & Rescue has documented and reported nearly 40 sets of human remains in this area.
Five remain unrecovered. Untouched. Deteriorating. Disappearing.
And this corridor—west of El Paso—has seen over 100 women and young girls found dead in less than 2 years!
None suspicious?
This is the same sheriff whose department:
Had a deputy convicted and sent to prison after sexually assaulting a woman while she was restrained in the back of his patrol car.
Is facing more than ten lawsuits from her own staff alleging harassment, intimidation, retaliation, and violations of the Whistleblower Protection Act.
Was taken to court by her own county after she refused to commission new cadets, forcing judicial intervention just to staff the department.
Is currently under a state audit that has been extended multiple times because investigators keep uncovering additional problems.
And instead of answering questions? Instead of recovering the dead? Instead of doing the job the public pays her to do?
This sheriff has chosen to attack, obstruct, and disparage community volunteers who are doing the work she and her department refuses to do—locating the missing, documenting the dead, and demanding accountability.
So we’re asking again, publicly:
Why are these deaths being dismissed?
Why are women and girls left in the desert?
Why are reported remains still unrecovered?
And why is this sheriff working harder to silence volunteers than to do her job and recover the dead?
The public deserves answers.
Families deserve their loved ones back.
And this sheriff does not get to hide behind lies, smears, or silence.
We are not going away. And PS. You work for us.
