#UKWGFam Smh, this story is crazy….. Following a traffic stop in Manchester, Tennessee, last month, a Black family from Georgia is battling for the release of their five young children from the Tennessee Department of Children's Services custody.

#BiancaClayborne and #DeonteWilliams were stopped by a Tennessee Highway Patrol officer on February 17 for "dark tint and traveling in the left lane while not actively passing" while they were traveling to a family funeral in Chicago, according to via tennessee_lookout .Their children were dozing off in the backseat.

Williams was taken into custody for Tennessee misdemeanor marijuana possession after the trooper searched the family's Dodge Durango. Clayborne was issued a citation but not detained.

The five children — a breast-feeding baby now four months old, along with 2-, 3-, 5-, and 7-year-olds — were forcibly removed from her side while an officer restrained her from reaching for her crying baby, Clayborne claimed. This happened six hours after the traffic stop as she waited for Williams' release on a bench in the criminal justice center.

Clayborne had no idea that DCS had applied for and been granted an emergency court order putting the children in state custody while she awaited Williams. There was no "less draconian" option available save removing the kids from their parents, according to the DCS petition, and there was probable cause that the kids had been neglected.

The kids are still in the care of the Tennessee Department of Children's Services nearly a month later. Lawyers for the couple are describing DCS's activities as "excessive," "abnormal," and a breach of the parents' rights.

They have also claimed that the pair was treated unfairly while traveling through rural Tennessee because they are Black.
