Jared Jackson ‘23 is a senior with a major in Political Science, and he is currently going through the process of getting a paralegal certificate.

Becoming interested in law was something that occurred to Jackson while he was going through classes at Marist. He said, “Basically just through taking political science courses, there’s obviously a lot of overlap with the legal system and government. I want to work in some sort of public interest law in the future and that obviously has a lot of overlap with political science. It felt like a natural progression for me.”

Over the summer, the senior had an internship with the New York Attorney General, which he really enjoyed. About the internship, he said, “I applied for the internship and I worked for one of the regional offices, and what we did was me and another group of interns worked on a podcast and policy paper for about 8 weeks in the summer about housing policy in New York State, which is something I didn’t really know about before, but after the internship I had a pretty big interest, there’s definitely a housing crisis going on in New York.”

After he graduates from Marist, Jackson is planning on going to law school, but is still figuring out what path he wants to take in law, saying, “I had that internship with the New York Attorney General over the summer, so that really opened my eyes to that whole sector, but I’m also interested in private sector law too, so where exactly I’ll end up in law I hope to decide after my first year of law school.”
