MIT professor and physicist Max Tegmark founded the Future Life Institute which campaigns for AI safety and pushes for regulations to be imposed on companies developing AI. In our recent interview with him at the Web Summit he discussed how consciousness gives meaning to the universe. ‘What is love? What is meaning? What is purpose? These are all subjective experiences. And I define consciousness as subjective experience as well. So before there was any consciousness, there was no meaning.’⁣
