Today we honor the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King, an important leader during the civil rights movement and historical figure, was also a lover of jazz music. In 1964, Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote an essay regarding the significance of jazz which was written for the organizers of the 1964 Berlin Jazz Festival. It is still considered to be one of the most profound essays about jazz in modern times. 

“Jazz speaks for life. The Blues tell the story of life's difficulties, and if you think for a moment, you will realize that they take the hardest realities of life and put them into music, only to come out with some new hope or sense of triumph.” - MLK
